Never heard of steel wool for that purpose. I would think that instead of steel wool why not just run the coax in steel conduit instead. If it worked at all. The ferrite cores sold by Palomar I believe are 6 in a pack. I used (2) packs or a total of (12) . The Palomar packs include heat shrink to make the whole installation neat. If the packs are not 6 then they are 8 for a total of up to 16 cores.
