First, I want to thank George Fermin (K5TR) for helping me get TR loaded up
again. Stupid me, after the lightning strike wiped out my family computer,
I bought a Compaq Presario without a floppy drive in it. I didn't even
bother to look. I just assumed all computers had an "a:" drive. When I
pulled out my old Compaq Deskpro, it of course didn't have a CD rom drive.
I used it in the past for TR and it always worked great, but it needed the
software also (it's been 14 years since I operated contests from home!), so
George sent me a floppy.
Now that I have TR loaded on the Deskpro and tested my hookup in last
night's trial SS, I find two problems:
- My choice for using the only DB25 port available on the Deskpro
is to connect it through my new FIF-232C interface to the CAT port in the
FT-1000. It doesn't work. I tried all combinations of commands for the
config file. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?
- The second problem is keying from the computer. Since I have
only one DB-25 port, where do I hook up the computer keying signal? If this
cannot be done, I can still do what I did last night (program my MFJ keyer
to do the dirty work).
Any advice at this short notice would be appreciated.I feel like I have
skipped a whole generation of technology.
73,
Pete

Ps: what is the "unlimited" category? U is new to me.
