Hello:
Here in Columbus, the VHF QSO Party on 6 meters started off with a
bang. For the first 45 minutes there were tremendous signals (but not a
lot of them) from W8/W90/W0 area. Then nothing except K4RX in NW FL
until 9:20 PM when two New Mexico stations came through. Then heard
nothing until 12:11 PM Sunday when there was a 15 minute opening to
W1/2/3 and VE3. Nothing after that except W4XXV in Sharpsburg, GA. I
was monitoring 50.125 listening for openings all weekend. Have no DVK,
so I didn't call CQ on a dead band.
38 QSOs in 24 VUCC areas = 912 points. Two of the Grids were all time
new ones. Worked some very big HF contesters, including K5AM, N6ZZ,
WE9V, WB9Z, VE3RM, N2BJ, WA1UJU, WB1GQR.
Hope for better openings during the other VHF contests this year. Will
be unable to operate all the SMIRK QSO Party, but will try to be QRV
some and hope for good openings. Note that the rules require that only
DX QSOs be made below 50.150. I guess that includes the CW band, hi.
73,
John, K4BAI.
