+2I have also used these interfaces for a long time. Both transistor and also opto's. Only thing I found was that in PTT part that different radio's require much different resistor values. Even two old FT-1000's required different values. From 500 to 1500 ohms. FSK was never a problem. Used Opto's when the computer had built in com ports 100% to just protect the computer as on-board problems that might have been caused -- never did see any difference in performance so went back to 100% transistors as they fit better in a connector and don't require a box. Jay WS7I +1 Since 2003, I've made over 75 of these interfaces for Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu and Elecraft radios. I wire the components point-to-point inside the DE9 connector hood that connects to the Serial port. (If the PC doesn't have Serial ports, then I use the Edgeport USB-Serial adapter.) The other end of the cable has the appropriate connector for the specific radio. The result is a single cable that has worked perfectly in all cases. I've never found the need for an opto-isolator solution that some people use instead of the resistor-transistor level-shifter circuit on Don's site. _______________________________________________ RTTY mailing list RTTY@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/rtty |
