Larry W0ETC Said: Last PM after checking email I decided to listen around 1808 for RTTY signals. Much to my surprise N2WK was calling CQ. I answered and we had a brief QSO. Wayne was an honest S7 which was two S units above the noise here and the print was around 95% clean. I did not have the amplifier turned on but he seemed to print me OK. Turns out Wayne was on 160 for the same reason as me and that was because of messages on this reflector about 160 RTTY. If we really want to shake up 160, someone needs to organize a 160 RTTY contest! Thomas KN4LF Says: I initiated the original email about 160 meter RTTY operation back in August. Yes I absolutely think that there should be a 160 meter RTTY contest or at least include 160 meters in every RTTY contest period! I usually listen and call CQ RTTY on 1807-1810 kc +/- QRM most every night around 0300-0400 UTC. I even call CQ on PSK31. I have an FT-1000MP Mark V Field, a 160 foot long inverted L up at 70 feet, an outdoor coaxial receiving loop on a rotator and 1000 watts, so I can cover North America easily. I've been on 160 meters on AM, CW and SSB since 1989 and it's really a great and challenging band. I have an FT-1000MP Mark V Field, a 160 foot long inverted L up at 70 feet, an outdoor coaxial receiving loop on a rotator and 1000 watts, so I can cover North America easily. Yes there still are a few sociopathic CW only LIDS that will cause intentional QRM but most guys on the band are real decent and knowledgeable. Besides if enough of us operate the digital modes on 160 the children will eventually take their ball and go home. Also I have made Mr. Hollingsworth K4ZDH aware of the intentional QRM. 73, Thomas F.
