Good Day All,
Just as soon as the nicad batteries in my digital camera here might charge
up(!), I'll post a few shots of the S.P.C. transmatch that I built here last
week, using nothing more than surplus / freebie components...
It's good for AT LEAST 100-watts, and the design was gleaned from an early
90's edition of the ARRL's RADIO AMATEUR'S HANDBOOK.
The TOTAL COST of the thing was a "budget-busting"(!) $8.50, per the
following inventory:
-ROTARY INDUCTOR---$5.00 for postage (a freebie, mailed to me by a buddy of
mine);
-VARIABLE CAPACITORS---$1.00 (Hamfest item);
-N.I.B. HAMMOND STEEL PROJECT CASE: $2.00 (Hamfest item);
-SO-239 CONNECTORS---FREE (R.F.E.);
-KNOBS---FREE (R.F.E.), and,
-CERAMIC ROTARY SWITCH---$0.50 (Hamfest item).
I've always wanted to have a portable S.P.C. transmatch for use in Field
Days, etc. --- just never got around to building it, until now. It's earning
its keep here in the shack by offering a 1:1 match for the Yaesu FT-980, as
it drives my homebrewed pair of 813's...
Compare the $8.50 final price, to what comparable "appliance tuners" are
going for on the market! I've always maintained that, whenever feasible,
t'is ALWAYS "...better to build, than to buy!" Hi Hi.
