Interesting analogies. I am in a mildly amusing situation where I'm feeling
a little like a QRP operator who has announced the FCC should change the
legal limit to 5 watts. Anyway, Art, I'm the wrong one to be asking these
questions, hi. I drive a 17 year old Corolla clone that may do 80 mph but
not all day, and struggles up a hill (glad I live in nice flat Illinois).
My ham station is probably worth way more than my car (I like my sense of
priorities). Further, I have never understood why anyone in the U.S. would
buy a Lamborghini, a car that can go over the speed limit here in 1st gear.
What a waste of a wonderful automobile, which would get beat to death on a
lot of our roads. But anyway, time to move on--i have to put in a bid on
WABC's MW50A (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=132&item=5527560239) just kidding 73, Rob/K5UJ
It has been asked before but here again. How fast will your car go ??? Faster than the speed limit right ??? Do you drive it at it's top speed ??? When you go up a steep hill are you glad you have the extra power so you don't have to slow way down to get up it ??? If I run a 8877 with 3 Kilovolts on the anode and a anode current of .8 Ampere It will output ABOUT 1500 watts at all frequencies below about 60 MHZ. If I should want I could run it at 4 Kilovolts at 1 Ampere and get ABOUT 2500 watts output. Which is right at the maximum recommend anode dissipation. Or as I have seen 4.5 Kv @ 1.25 A and about 3200 out on 144 MHZ for EME. The same tube has been running for over 15 years in that amp. Not mine but a good friend. If it needed a new tube I would be the one to instal it. He is a appliance operator. Now think about cars again, why are Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Corvette, Jaguar, Viver, Bugatti, Cobra, Mustang, Lotus, and more. ... Fast Cars, Sports Cars. ... allowed ?????? Maybe because most people don't drive with their right or in some cases their left foot holding the throttle pedal on the floor/firewall..
