With the 4-1000A it is difficult to destroy it.  In my experience with 3
of these amplifiers you really have to run some voltage on it in order
to get your 13 db gain. With proper input cct, proper output cct and
high enough HV you can do it.

I find that working with that sort of voltages that you have to use a
vacuum variable at least for C1.  An ordinary wide spaced capacitor at
that impedance and 2 KW on the tank cct you get RF arcing.   Most air
variable will arc across at 4.5 KV RMS of RF so a vacuum variable is in
order.

I also find that with that sort of voltage you have to have space
between your components and make use on insulating material in those
tighter places. Connectors to your HV supply must be proper HV
connectors.

My experience has been that you really have to be generous with your PIV
in your power supply.  It appears that arcing and flash overs in the
amplifiers can be troublesome to the diode bridge or doubler.  The
message would be in put in more PIV than you think you need or that the
design calls for.
