OK, looking back at this, I mistakenly thought you were referring to the linear loading wires. My mistake. Is this the boom truss lines, or the 40M element LL wires that also act to truss the element
Interesting. I have a stack of MAG 620/340's on a 120' R45 tower and I have had absolutely NO trouble with my 40M elements. The lower one is a rebuilt antenna after an ice storm - the lighter (older)

Dick: I have a very similar setup with a MAG 620/340 at 120 feet with a rebuilt (from ice storm) lighter version of the MAG 620/340 on a TIC ring at 60 feet as a stack. I also use the Orion 2800 for
I quit using the old B-1 balun. I use the "Ugly balun" on all antennas. Works extremely well with no heat degradation. 73, Jamie WB4YDL Sent from my iPad _____________________________________________
Is it a coil or coax ? Yes and yes ! :) I use lightweight 3 1/2" sewer PVC and use it as a form for wrapping the appropriate number (depending on frequency) turns of coax (I had Buryflex on hand). Yo
I forgot to mention to apply tape on the PVC openings - decreases bird nests and such ! :) I misread your first sentence - yes, it is a coil OF coax. :) 73, Jamie WB4YDL Sent from my iPad ___________
The best bang for buck on 5-band yagis when I was building my station was, in fact, the Force 12 XR-5. I have a short stack on a 72 foot crank-up tower and they just work - very well. I understand th
I have to agree with Jim here. The old B-1 balun Force 12 sold was not very good - I managed to burn out a couple. The SWR was never as flat as with the 'ugly balun'. :) 73, Jamie WB4YDL AAARGH! Most
Yes, I use quite a bit of LMR-600, a very nice 1/2" cable. You will need the H4 piston crimper - I borrowed one from the local cable/tower guy. I run LMR-600 from the SPG to the tower, then Bury-Flex
That's what I do - Kellum grips on all cables, tape together, and they all share the load. 73, Jamie WB4YDL why go to all this trouble when you can use a Kellems grip to hold the coax? Rick N6RK ____
Anyone else having trouble with TICGEN -the Tic ring company - besides me ? I sent a faulty TIC ring motor to Carl for repair. The ring sits on a motorized tower section and so the motor must stay ex
I used a modified Spiderbeam for Field Day and this year, we did use the NN4ZZ HexLock. Worked like a charm. We used it on ~30 feet mast in a Penninger mount with a Yaesu rotator at the base. Guyed a
Rick: Before we used the HexLock this year, we did in fact build the SB on a TV tripod nearby. Then we would gradually walk the SB up a 10 foot step ladder and shove this top mast section into the re
I haven't seen much about the tilt plate as relates to a SB mount - more for a yagi. I'm not sure I could answer your question on this one. 73, Jamie WB4YDL Sent from my iPad ________________________
I like the Hexbeam, but I also like that 3rd element in the SB (and for 10M, 3rd and 4th elements). To me, it's just a superior design. I think I could walk up the SB on a mast after being built on t
I have a friend who is having trouble finding someone to put his VHF antennas on his 60 foot tower. He lives in Weakley County, TN. Need recommendations for what I believe will be a small job. 73, Ja
Maybe referring to Kurt K7NV's Orion clamp. I have a used OR-2800 with his clamp but built for 2" masts. 73, Jamie WB4YDL Sent from my iPad _______________________________________________ ___________
Tony: I used Hammond fiberglass enclosures with hinged doors for my EME tower. The PJ series NEMA 4X is what you want - http://www.mouser.com/catalog/645/usd/2077.pdf . You'll probably also want a ba
Russ: Jim is quite correct. The modern day pacemaker, of which I implant fairly frequently, is well shielded and not susceptible to frequencies discussed. It is also not susceptible to microwaves com
