A 130 ft center fed zepp is a pretty good multi-band antenna if you are limited on what you can put up but you should be aware of the antenna patterns this antenna produces on the different bands. Mi

A quick analysis with EZNEC v6.0+ reveals that a 125' dipole @ 14.175 MHz yields a nice cloverleaf pattern with peaks of 3.67 dBi. If the dipole is oriented N/S, the peaks are at 37, 142, 218, and 32

HI Tim, I had a nice "run" on 40m for almost 2 hours during the NAQP. As many have mentioned, I knew my station's abilities and I had a good pulse on band conditions and contest activity. I was using

Compare W8TAH's 125ft dipole to a resonant dipole on 20m. Broadside his antenna will be 27dB WEAKER and on the ends his antenna will be about 2dB stronger than the 1/2wl dipole. The null area has at

Not if you have neighbors -- it's a sitting duck for RF noise because there's no practical way to choke it. And, of course, with the pattern issues you noted. qrz.com says Tim is near Cleveland. K1AR

Another thing for the smaller station to consider is when it is practical to start a run. You might not be loud enough, the band might not be open enough, there might be too much QRM, etc. Start by d

I believe the antenna that W8TAH described is NOT a dipole because he mentioned he feeds it with open wire feeder. A center fed zepp cut for 80 meters is usually about 130-135 long and fed at the cen

Yes, the antenna is fed with window line. I dont remember the exact length of feeder, but its close to 32 feet. Its got an LDG 4:1 balun and some coax to make the shack entry Tim W8TAH -- Tim Holmes

Unless the feedline is radiating a lot, the type of feedline does not affect the pattern. Open wire line is used with this kind of antenna because the high SWR on some bands would make coax extremely

Tim, Unless you're using a *balanced* tuner, like the Johnson Matchbox or a balanced L-network with the balun at the input (50 ohm) side of the network, you cannot assume that your feedline is truly
