I'm happy to advise that the equipment for the ET3AA RBN node has
arrived in Addis Ababa, and we're hopeful that the node will be on the
air shortly. Ken Claerbout, K4ZW is there on other business and will be
helping the club members at Addis Ababa University's Institute of
Technology to install the node, between business trips in the region.

The project owes its existence to the Yasme Foundation, which provided
funding for a QS1R receiver, Clifton Laboratories active antenna, and
preamp, and a Dell i3 PC, which I loaded with Windows 10 and the
required software and tested end-to-end before packing it up. Copies of
Skimmer Server and RTTY Skimmer were donated to the project by the
author, VE3NEA.

The location near the Equator in East Africa offers a lot of potential
value for DXers, contesters and SWLs. Recently, there is new scientific
interest in using the RBN for ionospheric research, and locations like
this, which fill gaps in the RBN's coverage, add to its utility for
these purposes.
