Barry: What you are describing is not a defect, but a well known fact that you
cannot usea serial port to do two jobs. When you use the serial port for
computer control, pins 6 and 8are tied together (causing the 301 to quit
working). In simple terms, to make that hook upwork, you need two serial
ports. If you cut the jumper, then serial port will not communicatewith the
computer properly. I seem to recall something about this issue on the TenTec
wiki.
Hope this helps.73 Clayton N4EV

Subject: [TenTec] Anybody using 301 remote tuning knob and CAT port together
on Omni 6?
The 301 remote tuning knob uses DB25 pins 6 and 8 for the encoder signals.
If I run a Y splitter off the Omni 6 DB25 and connect both the 301 and a
computer, the 301 stops working. Pins 6 and 8 normally carry DSR and CD
serial signals so connecting to a computer will interfere with the encoder
signals on those pins. Can anybody explain the proper way to handle the
Pin 6 and 8 connection in the cable that goes to the computer if a 301 is
also connected to the Omni 6 port? Or are pins 6 and 8 SUPPOSED to be
disconnected in the Omni 6 serial cable?
Thanks & 73,
