I would call the Eagle an entry-level contest grade transceiver.
Not sure what to call the OM7.

Maybe the term "mid-range" is wrong.
Let's say the mid-teens range ($1500).
THAT'S the market Ten-Tec can address and hit the masses.

The target competitors are FT-1200 and TS-590.

The Eagle probably has too few features to be considered a masses radio.
A masses radio needs to have enough filter slots to work all modes, and it
needs at least provision for an external scope, "ready to go".

For me, the Eagle is my contest radio for CW and occasionally SSB.
It has the size to fit my type of operation, which is often portable,
working out of a camper.
If I want to work AM or FM, I have another JA transceiver for that.
Most people probably won't want to have 2 transceivers, so the box I think
we need must do it all.
The Eagle does not.

Geoff, I like your proposal.
My preference would be a dual bander (40/20) or even tribander (40/30/20).
I would like one with very low current drain on RX so that it can be run off
of batteries.

However the cheap Chinese transceivers seem to have stirred that segment up
a lot, to the point it may not be possible to make any money there.

Doesn't Ten-Tec already have the mid-range handled with Eagle and Omni VII?
