There was a similar situation when L.B. Cebik (W4RNL) passed away. He had what was probably the best web site on antenna technology. Several people wanted to replicate it so as to keep the information available. And indeed they did so. Was a noble idea. A second group, spearheaded by a non-ham, claimed they held the rights to it. It went to court, took 5 years to settle, with the group claiming rights, winning. The announcement immediately following the court case did not specify the exact terms but apparently some money changed hands. The other group had to take down their site.
