Mike, THIS MIGHT BE YOUR PROBLEM: Maybe the antenna is already too long and
its primary resonance on 160m is below 1.8 MHz, AND your analyzer won't tune
down that low. The dip you are getting at 2.3 MHz is just some other dip
due to whatever reason, but not the real resonance of the antenna. Perhaps
you have an SWR of 1.5:1 down at 1.7 MHz. (just picked a random set of
numbers, but you can see what I mean).
My suggestion is to have a second person measure the antenna very carefully
for two things:
1) exact overall length
2) exact length of each side
You might also want to pick up a second tape measure.
