Elecraft sells a small signal generator, single band( they have several models) and don't cost a fortune. About $40 or so. They produce a 50 mV or 1 mV signal on crystal controlled frequencies. Plug your coax into it. Set output for 50 mV and see if your rec shows s-9. Can you hear the 1 mV? If you can then nothing's wrong with the rig.
