Every Argosy I sold came with 30 meters installed and working.
It was also advertised from the get-go as having 30 meters. No footnotes
about "when the band is authorized".
By the phrasing of the original post, the implication is that his Argosy
lacks 30 meter capability altogether, not just a missing crystal. It also
doesn't make sense that the crystal would be missing, as 30 meters also
doubles as 10 MHz WWV/WWVH receive, which was a nice perk as well.

I believe that the Argosy was sold before the 10MHz band was fully
authorized so Ten-Tec sold it without the crystal for the band. As soon as
it was OK, they sold the crystal.

Oh? That's very, very odd.
The Argosy ALWAYS had 30 meters... it was 12& 17 that didn't come with it
(as those bands were not available at the time the rig was offered for sale)
This makes me wonder if a previous owner made some mods to the rig you have.

and turns out to not have 30m. I suppose it is
a really early rig (S/N 525-0928). As I have not bee following Tentec
gear for nearly that long, I wonder if there is or ever
was a mod to add 30m to this old classic Argosy.
