I think a more important point, than which connector or which manufacturer,
or how tight, is the weather-proofing.
How many times have we built a "temporary" antenna, and then left it up for
10 years?
And how many times have I kicked myself in the _ _ _ because water had run
into my coax.
Sure I knew better, but I never really intended to leave it up.
So now I at least tape all outside connections with electrical tape, all the
time.
That also solves the problem of connectors working lose.
Of course there is better stuff than electrical tape, but my point is, do
something; anything!

In use of PL 259 UHF connectors, you would be hard put to see any real
detriment at HF bands, per measurements with Antenna Analyzers on the
impedance.
However, a key step overlooked by hams is to first seat the inner part
of the plug that has two "teeth" such that the teeth of the PL 259 part
are seated into the gear teeth 'valleys' of the receptacle. THEN, you
bring up the shell and tighten it. Much less likely to work loose if
the whole process is followed as intended. It is an easy thing to miss
the first time around, been there done that.
