common problem?

My VI/3 logic board seemed to have "failed" about two years ago. The
radio was pretty much completely
dead as far as controls and displays go, although it still made noise.
I was able to trace the failure
to the on-board OCXO. After a great deal of fiddling I got the
oscillator running again, bringing the radio
back from the grave. Frequency stability was not so great after that,
so I replaced the entire oscillator with
a new TCXO. The result is that the radio is now much more stable with
almost no required warm-up time
and has worked perfectly since.

I have no idea how common this particular failure is, but at least
here's one data point for your collection. The
good news is that it was (after I found the problem) an easy fix and
there were dozens of choices for the
required parts.
