an extra rig of the sort one likes to use is surely a comfort, even if
expensive. I like the idea of having a spare just in case. you can see that
at QRZ when you search on AK7O.

Robb,
I was actually referring to the glut of TT rigs on ebay and elsewhere.
I plan on contacting Ten-Tec tomorrow and discussing some possibilities
with them regarding this matter. Having a spare is not a bad idea, and I
do have a "spare" Corsair II (and I'll admit it - I have a "Corsair I"
too), but the Omni VI (+) is still a pricey piece of gear ($1000 -
$1500) and I just can't quite bring myself to have an extra one sitting
around. The Corsair II is a pretty impressive receiver in regard to
handling weak signals and architecturally, the Omni VI's RF circuits
are near perfect IMHO for what is now called "old-school' design - and
I can work on them.
Further, I couldn't imagine me not being satisfied with the performance
of a VII or Orion II, but after a lifetime of being around
microprocessors and PCs, I just don't want it in a radio. It reminds me
of work, but that's just me and I realize I'm in the minority.

How about "Paperweights" or "Door stops"?
I have an Omni 6+, original owner and just hope not to have the
dreaded Logic board failure. But along with my B/C-line and TR-7
Drakes, the Ten Tec's just keep plugging along. On the other hand,
what happens when the display dies in my Orion, just how long TT plans
to support that part remains to be seen.
Good luck

Don,
This thread makes me nervous as hell.
Apparently you aren't the only one ...

Glad I hung onto my Sherwood/Drake R-4c.

Yes, but those "boat anchors" are repairable. I think we need a new
term for more recent radios that can't be repaired and don't weigh
80lbs.

I feel your pain .............. BUT !!
Computers and RADIOS get old and the chip industry has moved on!
Same for old TV sets! That is why the term BOAT ANCHORS came into
use :-) In the process I GOT OLD TOO and this new SMD stuff is now
beyond my repair skill too!
