I have both an Omni V and a Corsair II. The Omni has the N4PY upgrade. The receive audio in the Corsair II sounds much clearer to my badly shot up ears. I have been able to copy weak CW stations much easier on that radio, than on the Omni V. The Omni has been back to Ten Tec service and has been properly aligned, and I asked them to check out the audio to see if perhaps the caps on the audio board had dried out causing the audio to lack clarity. From what they could tell, it was working fine. The audio filter in the Omni is pretty much useless. I had much better performance ignoring it and using my outboard Autek audio filter instead. The audio filter in the Corsair II seems to work much better. Both radios use the speaker built into the Ten Tec power supply, so that much is a constant. While the Omni V is much more sophisticated, and has a greater array of features, I find it much less pleasant to use, and currently it is sitting here on a chair, while the Corsair II and external VFO are fired up on the operating desk. I suspect that others have had different experiences with the two different rigs, but I much prefer the older PTO tuned radio.

Your mileage may vary...

I have had very good luck using external speakers with both my omni vi and vii with external speakers...if I put the speakers at desk top level underneath and at the back of a shelf on top of the desk...sounds very much natural to my ears. ----- Original Message ----- From: <yash@aol.com>

Subject: [TenTec] poor harsh audio on OMNI-V

Hi
???? Just sold my Corsair II line.
Always enjoyed the audio quality, very easy to listen to. Bought a
really nice OMNI-V ,with the 9.2 chip and ALL the filters. The
audio...on a separate speaker... sounds Tinny and harsh. Not as bad on
160 and 80? ,but up the bands, has that tinny, harsh sound. 160 and 80
are ...ok but..no where near the quality of the corsair II. the 2.4khz
filter sounds closed in,constricted, ? and 1.8 even worse, hard to
copy. Iam new to Ten Tec and the ONMI-V soI haven't been able to
compare with another omni-V rig.

?? Seems like there is no bottom end in the receive audio, like a filter
was cutting at 200-300hz. I noticed in the reviews of the rig ,all the
comments on audio seemed very good.Anybody have any Ideas where to
look? or some thoughts on the problem.

thanks for any help on this.
