Also, remember to turn the notch filter VERY slowly when trying to notch out a signal, as the notch is quite narrow. A quick twist will seem like nothing is happening. I mean, go SLOW. Once you get a sense of where the knob has to be based on the frequency of the tone you will find yourself narrowing in on the offending signal much more quickly. It becomes very instinctive quickly.

I have a 'new-to-me' Omni VI, Fac III option. I don't yet have a manual, but one is on the way. Can someone explain to me in simple terms how and when to use the Notch Filter on Auto and Manual? When I turn the outer Notch dial on manual, on a given cw signal, nothing happens. When I place the Notch on Auto, (the light comes on), it makes the signal 'thump' and become unreadable. I have a full complement of cw filters.

No automatic notch filter can tell the difference between the CW you
want to copy and QRM. They are all tones. Manual you have to tune
something to put the notch on ONE QRM tone, I'm sure. At least that's
how its worked in my Corsair II and other receivers, like my 75S-3B.
