John, I don't know of any generic problem with flat cables on Orion, but I have experienced problems with a flat cable on a number of instruments, including a professional RFI receiver, the EMC 25. A bad crimp can be all it takes to create a prolem with flat cables, or a cable that moved during the crimping process. They are generally diagnosed by flexing the cable.
