Use the KEY jack. Closing the "DA" connection, TIP/SLEEVE, puts the radio in transmit in the USB or LSB mode. No connection to the MIKE jack needed for PTT.

I was fortunate last Christmas to received a Heil Pro headset which is
very nice. Heres the problem! I attempted to use it on the OMNI VII
only to find out that I can't use the PTT cable with the rig. As soon
as you plug the PTT cable into the radio it goes into transmit. OK,
before anyone asks, yes I have checked the wiring! I had to build an
interface cable so I could use the mic/headset with the omni mic
connector. I have tried various configurations of connections for the
ground leads and still no success. Soooooooooooo I had to make an
external PTT switch connection to the mic jack and it works fine. Also
my D 104 works fine.

Before I contact Heil, has anyone else had this situation come up?

Thanks

Yes that can be done but then you have to plug/unplug when you want to use CW or PSK or other digital modes. It seems that some kind of fix is in order instead of pulling the rig in and out on the bench to change wires. My external PTT switch works fine but now you have another wire to deal with. It would be great if either Heil or TT had a solution. Not a big deal for me be cause I only use the headset during a contest and use the D 104 the few other times I operate voice. Well just a point I wondered if anyone else had experienced.
