Dave:

I use a 238 tuner. Most of the time without an amp but I do run a Centruion when needed. The tuner handles all of the loads I've hung on it. No arcs, no sparks. If I identify any weakness it would be the dial cord method for operating the slide rule dial. The internal SWR bridge and Power meter functions seem reasonably accurate. I do not us an internal tuner with the new Omni VII. And I don't mind turning a few knobs when I change bands or frequencies.

Antennas are a 256 ft center fed wire using balanced feed. This antenna works all bands, 160M - 10M. And a 120 ft wire using a 1:1 current balun at the feed point and a coax feed. This antenna shows a 1:1 SWR at mid band on 75M and with the tuner I work all of 80/75 meters.

My 238 does a great job, and is a cosmetic match for the Omni V and VI xcvrs

Looking for a Ten Tec tuner to match Omni VI plus.

Which one is recommended? I don't currently run an amplifier. I use a
Carolina Windom antenna, so I do need a tuner and like building wire
antennas.

Thanks

I was talking about the Ameritron AL-811a amplifier, which uses three
811a transmitting tubes, not the tube itself. The 572b tubes are
indeed capable of greater output because of their higher plate
dissipation rating, their greater grid current rating, and their
higher plate voltage. Yes, the 572b is "like" an 811a tube, and some
use them in amps designed for 811a tubes because of their perceived
greater durability, but they aren't really the same.
