Yes!! Cushcraft has eliminated all antennas that have a boom over 18 feet. They have stopped paying for freight charges to all its distributors and has not added any new antennas in the amateur field. Their ham antenna business is now less than 5 percent of their gross. I would expect them not to provide any new ham antennas in the near future. Note no adds in the AES catalog...

I sure hope Yaesu does not do the same thing. I might add that Yaesu has dropped a lot of service on products that are no longer presently produced (FT 100 Ft 90 etc). They have also lost some of their key people to Heil and Ten Tec within the past year.

I sure hope I am wrong, but it is creating some concern.

Well, the know-it-alls over on the QRZ.COM forums would have you believe
that Motorola is either going to shut down the Amateur division, sell it to
the Chinese, or sell it to MFJ.

Now, mind you, there are no facts to back any of this up, just wild
speculation. But they already know everything, so you can take it to the
bank. Just ask them.

Keep in mind, of course, that while Motorola will own a controlling
interest, they won't own it all. So we shall see. And I wouldn't expect
anything to happen right away.

And in all fairness, you never know. For example... anyone heard anything
out of Cushcraft since they were sold earlier this year?

Does anybody have any sense of whether Motorola will continue the amateur
product line. Based
on Yaesu's product line-up, Yaesu has been making big penetrations into the
commercial and security
communication business which is why Motorola must have bought into them. The
founder may even want to spin
off the amateur piece just to keep it alive since it was his starter set.

I just checked the calendar, and no, it's not April 1st.

But this is certainly stunning news!
