I used a 1208 for many years with my Argonaut II. I used it barefoot to
earn the WAC on 6 meters during the last sunspot peak. While my
Argonaut has been modified to allow the hard keying of my Elecraft
transverters, I never had much trouble with the RF sensing operation
other than the time I zapped the diodes while trying it out with my Omni
V. The specs on the 1208 may not look all that great on paper, but they
are cheap and really seem to work great. I went with the Elecraft
transverters to make it easier to get on 222 and 432 down the pike. I
gave mine to a friend to get him on 6 meters and he is having a great
time with it the last I heard.
