Just may be that the pivots are worn in an oval. I've seen this many times
before on less expensive meter movements. Now, IF..... I repeat IF you
have good eyes, very steady hands and some small jeweler tools you can
adjust the rear pivot. Generally 1/4 to no more than 1/2 turn clockwise to
tighten the needle bearings so they fit better into the center of the pivot.
Care, patience, a clean ......no very clean work place, and lots of light
from several directions an a jeweler loop is needed.
It can be done, I've done it. But you may experience success or destructive failure. Nothing in between. The easy way out is to send Tentec a few bucks for a new one. 73, Bob, K4TAX----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Edwards" <kd2e@comcast.net> To: <geraldj@storm.weather.net>; "Discussion of Ten-Tec Equipment" <tentec@contesting.com> Sent: Sunday, July 22, 2007 9:50 PM Subject: Re: [TenTec] Argonaut V Meter Needle Sticking Unless you have a good loupe, or stereo microscope....I wouldn't touch it. I removed front cover & it will still do it. A light tap on rig will release it.If it sticks with the front cover off, its not static electricity from the front cover. But wiping it with pure dishwashing detergent is a way to kill that static.I checked for dust or anything else in the movement of needle & it looks clean. Took air can & lightly blew some air inside of movement & this did not help. Doesn't always stick at same place.Probably has a bit of magnetic dust in the air gap and that's anchored better than a bit of air will move out. You may have to use a strong light and lots of magnification to find it, then slide in adhesive tape to grab the steel sliver. Be sure the needle isn't dragging on the scale or the edge of the scale. Bend the pointer with a couple tooth picks and do that gently. Things like fingers against meter parts usually means the destruction of the meter.Wondering if anyone might have a fix for this or is this just a bad metergoing out?
