Apparently, there is a big variation in the noise from the reed relay. Mine
is very quiet but some are not.

I've only had my Orion II for about a week but I was wondering about the

The meter is driven by the internal computer through a digital-analog
converter, so you're unlikely to harm it IMO. TT hasn't seen fit to
damp the meter movement (ala auto shock absorbers) to prevent the
over-swing. They could do that in firmware, I imagine.
The reed relay noise in CW is something that bothers some ops and not
others. I hear it, but it's not an issue for me. It might be possible
to go in and acoustically insulate the relay. I wonder if anyone has
actually done it.
