I have had this issue a few times. However, I have gotten into the habit of
taking the headphone plug and run it across the mic connector on the radio
before plugging the headphones in. Kind of a discharge method I guess. Since
I have been doing that, I have yet to have it go "mum" on me. For what its worth dept....
