Most variable "RF Gain" pots in receivers actually control the gain of an IF stage. You could find the suitable fixed resistor in the IF and substitute a pot. You probably want to arrange the pot so that the wiper does not bottom out. IE, to zero ohms. You also have to pay attention that you are not changing the bias on a stage adversely. I have found the fixed Attenuator built into the Argo V, to be perfectly adequate on all bands. -Stuart K5KVH |
