The color code is in accordance with the National Electric Code which should always be followed but is not always, Henry Radio in their amps did not follow the color code. The black is always the hot wire, white is the neutral which at the service is grounded and green is always ground. If you have an amplifier that requires 120/240 volts then you use a four wire cord, red and black being the hot wires, white neutral, green ground. If you ever find a piece of equipment that is not wired to code it is a good indication that a novice was at work, and what else did he do wrong?

I am changing out some 2 prong (non grounded) plugs with three prong (grounded) plugs on some equipment to make the equipment more safe. I have been told that the black wire should go to the fuse side and the black to the switch.
Of course the green should go to cabinet.
But, my question is does it really make a difference as to which wire (black or white) goes to the fuse side of the equipment.
I can't see how it would make a difference.
Any advice?
