Greg, you need NO interface for the Orion. the cables supplied with the
radio plug into your audio card with adapters. i use MixW and can run all
the digital modes that program offers by choosing the mode. to key CW you
can either use tone and run it into the mike input of the Orion or use the
simple switch shown in the MixW help files consisting of 2 resistors a diode
and a transistor you can buy at Radio Shack for under $10. the actual keying
of the radio requires a serial port or a USB to serial port adapter. both
work fine. there is no connection to the mike jack on the Orion at all. you
can run SSB should you wish without moving anything.
i presently have 2 Orions connected to my computer using LOGic8 and MixW. i
can switch between the active radios in MixW and LOGic8 with the mouse. it
is not as fast as some contesters would want but suits my needs fine.

Subject: [TenTec] Help with Digital Modes on Orion II
I would like to get on PSK and other digital modes with my Orion II. What
brand/type of rig-computer interface have you found works for you? I want
to buy one complete with interface cables as I do not have the time or
patience to build one. Also, I understand some units do audio for SSB,
slow-scan or even RTTY. I know this is a broad question, but I am not sure
yet exactly what I want…I just know I need one! Are there any I should stay
away from, such as ones prone to RF, etc.?
Any suggestions as to what has worked well with your Orion II will be
appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg, N6GK!
