If someone wanted to use two separate directional antennas connected to two separate receiver antenna inputs and listen to them with each receiver in opposite channels of stereo headphones, the local oscillators would need to be phase locked. Not just very close to identical frequencies. Otherwise the rolling phase difference of the two LOs would ruin the spatial diversity effect we are trying to get. In fact, why use two phase locked LOs at all? Use one LO and a power divider (for each LO needed that is. That could be two LOs, 1st LO and BFO, for a "single conversion" receiver, which is really double conversion)

I would like a setup like this. I'm more interested in listening to two phase locked receivers on the same frequency, with identical front ends, IFs, detectors and audio stages, than I am interested in listening on two different frequencies.

Carl,
I've checked very carefully on my ORION II and there is 4 hertz of
difference between the Sub Receiver and Main Receiver at 15.0 MHz. This
might give a very mild reverb effect on a music note... But I can not
really observe it at all, unless I listen to the CW offset to get a pure
note. I'm not sure if I'm perfectionist enough to make an adjustment to
align these two receivers to this level or not. Maybe on a steady carrier
would warble enough that I would want to.

But it would be nice to have it as a feature in the N4PY software.

Bill,

I don't know why I never thought of this before but I have a diversity mode
in my N4PY Orion program. It sets the two radios to the same frequency as
you tune
with the remote tuning pod. I can easily put in a user configurable
frequency difference in my program to handle a few hertz offset. I am going
to add this to the next version of my program. Thanks for the idea.
