The loop will exhibit a reasonable impedance, around 100 ohms, on its
fundamental and harmonics. I think it best to use a balun, since your
tuner is designed for an unbalanced output. I have a vertical loop cut
for 40 meters. I use a 4:1 balun at the loop feedpoint and then run a
short (about 25-30 feet) coax run to the tuner in the shack. Even
without the tuner, the swr is relatively low on most bands. The tuner
seems to like the low impedance presented to it by the 4:1 balun. The
antenna works well from 5 MHz to 29 MHz.

Subject: [TenTec] Loop/open wire/AH3?
I have been following the discussions re open wire feeders and invite
comment on my planned new antenna. I will be installing a loop around my
residential yard thanks to a fortunate arrangement of fir and cedar trees
here on the West (Wet) coast of Vancouver Island.
I will feed this with ladder line-when it arrives---and feed it with my Icom
AH3 tuner by connecting the main output of this tuner (generally used for
long wires and whips) to one side of the ladder line and then connecting the
ground terminal of the tuner to the other side.
Coax should then run through the wall of my shack to the Argonaut V.
Suggestions/comments/improvements?
