Are you sure the mike is ok? One of the D-104s I bought used had the usual
filter over the element replaced with a thin piece of black cardboard.
It sounded like that. I removed the carboard and was going to replace
the element (this was back when you could buy new ones), but it worked
fine once I removed the cardboard.
A properly made D-104 should have a thin black mesh in the front followed
by yellow fiberglass. I assume that the owner before me took it apart and
lost the mesh. :-)
