Okay folks, I have been reading the mail for a week or so and can understand
the eager anticipation of a new rig arriving-and here it is not yet
Christmas. Especially since I just received my "new to me" Argonaut V on
Monday. Never mind having to wrestle it from a UPS driver, I had to arrange
delivery from another country..the U.S.; have the previous owner negotiate
customs, pay-on my behalf the dreaded tax-and then meet me at a ferry
terminal near the Washington border.
After cruising the Vancouver area ham stores, a rare treat for this island
visitor, I carried my cardboard carton of goodies back onto the ferry. By
the time I arrived home it was a 13 hour journey. Yes, it was certainly
worth it. I now have a great little rig, spent this afternoon and a few
hours earlier this week putting up an antenna and look forward to trying it
out.
So, Argonaut owners out there, what should I know/learn about this rig.? I
hope to use it on SSB, digital modes as well as some CW-once I find a proper
key to replace my WW II straight key ( soon to be available on E-Bay). This
one has the excellent SGC ADSP noise and bandwidth filter as well as the
TXCO and I have just ordered the Elecraft ATU-1 automatic antenna tuner.
Not the latest firmware upgrade yet but I do have the modification kit for
audio. Not sure about the SMT parts but will see what happens.
Spent this morning listing my old ham gear on the local club swap and shop.
Hey, if you are interested.I guess I better check if it is okay to sell non
Ten Tec gear on this site. Let me know.
Yes, I am envious of the Orion, the Omni, the Jupiter and the amplifiers but
have long been a fan of Ten Tec gear. Now I have some.
Any suggestions for using/improving my modest Argonaut would be appreciated.
Congrats to those who will be receiving the Orion II. Life is fleeting,
there are no pockets in shrouds.
Cheers,
Bill
