For those following the tread I started about the 301 encoder and the Omni VI
Plus not working together was solved earlier today with the help of many, but
especially Bob Brannigan-W2EJG, who led me to the simple answer, posted in the
archives. Evidently a fellow by the name of Steve Mosier had posted a simple
solution to the TenTec reflector on Oct. 27, 1997. It involved removing 2 pins
from the cable going to the PC serial port. Everything is documented below.
Works Fantastic! Thanks to all for your help and leads. 73, Rog-K9RB

You Got it, Bob. Many Thanks!
The removal of pins 6 and 8 going to the PC serial port, as explained in the 27
Oct.,'97 "Omni VI 25 pin remote cable" by Stephen Mosier did the trick. Once
you study what Pins 6 & 8 connect to in the 301 encoder, it all becomes easy to
see what's happening. A couple bends with some needle nose pliers to remove
those two pins and we're in business! Everything works as it should. That sure
saved me lots and lots of time, Bob. I hope some day to be able to help you as
you have helped me on this one.
I wonder how you wired the extra button to "split" from the 301? It would also
be nice to be able to do "A/B" as I notice the encoder works fine on either
VFO.
vy 73, and again, I can't thank you enough, Bob, and I hope your upcoming month
long trip is a good one.

Go into the Archives on the Ten-Tec reflector and look up:
27 May 1997 "TRLog + Omni VI+" by Pete Hoover bottom of page is pinout
27 October 1997 "Omni VI 25 pin remote cable. by Stephen Mosier.
These will solve your problem. I know it took about two weeks for me to get it
running. I finally homebrewed a cable.
BTW set the baud rate at 4800. Mine is different in that I have a button on the
enclosure that lets me split right from the 301,
but it all works swell with WinEQF and other programs
Good luck Bob-W2EJG
