when i put in my big generator & transfer switch I did put out in one of these rugged looking Home Depot specials. However they are ONLY MOVs ( I looked), and they do decline with hits... I opened it up, to find the box full of sand...so when the movs explode i guess I'll have glass.

my was from Intermatic the timer people, with leds to tell me if i blew a phase,,,
it's the box on the right of this pix,,,,,

I learned about about surge, as I was the sales rep for SL WABER who bought an early 80s company called Surge Sentry. I buy these things at hamfests cheap... avalanche diodes , movs and gas tubes all combined for the best of three worlds...later I worked for APC...( BOY DID THEY GET BIG !!!)
GREAT SUBJECT
