New engineering has been done. The color LCD (and additional support
for it) add to parts cost. There is some inflation. Who knows, maybe
the red dot will come back. And TT gets to set the price to maximize
profit - as they should.
The market has changed. Orion used to be one of the most expensive
rigs on the market. That must have kept the company cautious about
setting the price too high. The competition has helpfully shown there
is some kind of demand even at the $10K+ level, so TT doesn't have to
worry so much.
I have been a little surprised that TT offers all its updates for
free. Engineering time is expensive. I would be willing to pay for an
update or extended warranty service -- especially if that meant that
progress would come more quickly or <name your benefit>.
