What is the optimum level (preferably an s-meter reference because i'm stupid and i don't know what else to use) of RF into an Omni-D for best signal to noise ratio. When i cut this preamp in on an S-0 noise level, i can usually bring the noise up to S5 or S7 with the gain wound all the way up. If there's a signal in the noise that i can hear but can't copy, how much do i bring it up to put the reciever in the middle of it's best dynamic range or sig/noise ratio (all SSB voice). Once i do that i can start filtering, using the radio's built in filters and an external timewave audio DSP box.. sometimes it works for filtering noise sometimes it doesn't. Is there a magic number for this radio or is it 'whatever works best' which is the answer i expect to get

Thanks, 73 de KC0NPF
