Being an old Lake Erie sailor, I could make a wild guess as to the origin of the term. Lake Erie is known for it's shallow waters and extreme choppiness in many situations where the "other" great lakes are but a gentle roll. I would think a CW Op, sitting at a key on board, might indeed have a special "swing". :-) But that's only a guess.
