Good question. Obviously if it could be done for $300, that would be
better, but I'm already asking a lot from the manufacturer. I just sort of
figured that $500 was the most you could expect a new ham with other
financial obligations to stretch to and that would give the manufacturer the
most room to work. Also, I was assuming a complete package (antenna, power
supply, feedline, ground) for that price, so the rig would have to come in
under $500.
