I find that if I have a relay problem causing low receiver sensitivity,
I can fix it by transmitting (into a dummy load) on the ham band for the
relay in question. A few pushes of the tune button or a few strings of
dits at full power cleans the relay contacts and restores proper operation. I had a Paragon that would do the same thing you describe only on the 80 M band, and lightly tapping the top of the cabinet near the PA heat sink would bring signals back to normal.
