Exactly my scenario this evening. I did work them though - (the 6O0CW)
despite the Orion is still in the mailing. Perhaps I am experiencing
some kind of mental adjustment to a better radio setup beforehand ?

A perfect example of a situation where you really do
need a narrower roofing filter is when weak dx is
cq'ing "1 up" on the low bands and you want to be able
to hear the dx despite very strong callers that are
only 1 khz (or less) away. 6O0CW on 160M last night
was just such a case.
