Ben, since you mention the 2 MHz signal, of the oscillator, I think you must
have had the 160m module in the radio. This is a known situation for 160m
only. If the PTO is set too far out of the band when the 160m module is
plugged in, the oscillator, which is in the module, will not run. Simply
have the PTO tuned to the section of the band where it will operate 160m
before you plug in the module.
The module contains the local oscillator, and the final tank components for
each band.
There is an insert in the manual about this.
The bandspread on other modules is 500 kHz, so the PTO covers that; but not
on 160m, where you have only 1.8 to 2.0 MHz, and not all of the range of the
PTO is used.
