My guess is that you need an artificial ground. If the rig is playing RF free with the vertical but has RF with the G5RV, you have common mode RF comming back on the G5RV feedline. An alternative might be to change the G5RV into an openwire center fed antenna and use a balanced tuner design like the single coil Z match or the johnson matchbox. Another alternative might be to take the G5RV feedline all the way down to the ground to a barrell connector attached to a ground rod and a few radials. Then take another peice of coax back up to the shack. Use some ferrite on the coax going up to the shack. Seems like a lot of hassle but it gives the common mode current a way to get to ground without going through your mic. Check out the RFI forum on contesting.com. My experience tells me that a good balanced antenna and antenna tuner is the way to go. http://lists.contesting.com/archives/html/RFI/2000-08/msg00015.html http://home.att.net/~w4cwg/artgnd.htm http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2118 http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/ldbutler/SingleCoilZMatch.htm 73 W9OY _______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/tentec |
