I have a 509 in good condition. 

I think you can deal with your bandswitch problem by using TV tuner cleaner, 
Just squirt the contacts well and rotate the switch. Beyond that I have no 
knowledge of your other difficulties. Garland at TT can do wonders with your 
machine.
