I went to the Eimac page link on the P version of the 800 tube.   However,
it stated the grid rating was the same but the voltage rating, (plate), was
increased by a longer ceramic insulator.

I do not see that mod helping your grids out in case of excessive current
drive.
What am I missing?

Maybe it helps overall heat dissipation of the tube which might be related?
