You can angle ground rods out of the basement, and in fact improve the performance. Ground around the basement walls will be more moist than the ground directly under the floor. What counts is contact area, and low impedance earth. The ideal low impedance ground can be achieved by running a 200 foot of 1/10 inch diameter copper around the building where the shack is located. That is what the local power company came up for radio site transmitter buildings atop our rocky soil here. -Stuart K5KVH |
